The host of SAMM Co. has shot his SIG P211 GT5 since April, mostly in USPSA Limited Optics, and this is his review at a little over 10,000 rounds. It isn’t a first look.
What he covers: He bought this GT5 himself, and nobody sent it to him or paid for the review. He says the malfunctions on his gun have been zero by his count, with no failures to feed, eject, or fire. He’s still on the original recoil spring, though he says the guide rod shows a little bit of wear and he plans to keep spare springs on hand. The Nitron finish shows little wear, and he has never cleaned it past a field strip. He cleans it every 500 to 1,000 rounds and before matches, and he says it doesn’t need to be bathed in oil. He puts the trigger at about three and a half pounds from the factory, by his read, and says it feels the same now as when it was new. He calls it “lights out accurate” and likes how fast it returns to zero. The optic and the brass grip panels on his gun are his own additions, and his heavy setup is part of why he says it settles so quickly. He moved to metal magazine base plates out of caution, and his one wish is an optic with a bigger window. He says he really wouldn’t change anything on the gun itself and would buy it again. Specific claims in the video are his, not ours.
Here’s our take. Buy the P211 GT5 if you want a full size 9mm built for competition and plan to add your own optic. Expect to supply the optic and any grip upgrades yourself, since his gun isn’t how it ships. One owner’s 10,000 rounds is a strong data point, not a reliability guarantee.
We stock the SIG P211 GT5 in Nitron with a 5 inch barrel and an optics cut slide, the base gun under his upgrades. It ships without an optic and without the brass grips. On the shelf: the SIG P211 GT5 9mm, Nitron, 21 + 1, with 21 + 1 capacity per our listing. Related: he also bought a P211 GT4 and says it uses the same trigger and the same magazines, so here’s the SIG P211 GT4 9mm, Nitron. He doesn’t review it in this video. Complete firearm.
