Fully Loaded Reviews on the Taurus GX2

Taurus GX2 9mm in black

John and Kurt of Fully Loaded Reviews put their Taurus GX2 through a first range day and scored it on their own five star scale. They bought this GX2 with their own money before launch, and nobody sent it to them. This is a first look, not a long term test.

The nits come first. John isn’t a fan of manual safeties, and this gun has one. There’s no optics cut on it. They found some grittiness and machine marks in the slide, the new magazines were stiff to load, and the trigger runs a little heavier than the GX4 they know. Their gun shot left for them, and they suspect the rear sight position, though they’re careful to call it “a sample size of one.” Kurt also thinks the GX4 line feels a bit tighter. John’s daily carry stays his GX4, and he wouldn’t swap it for this one.

Then the good news. They say the frame is really well built. They put a little over 500 rounds through it with 115 and 124 grain ammo, and by their count it “fired every round” they fed it. They call the felt recoil “one of the lowest” they’ve seen in this size, and in their side by side it edged out the GX4 and the GX4 Carry. They like the grip texture, the rounder feel, and a trigger with a clean break and a short reset. They also like that it shares a lot with Taurus’s GX4 family. Both hosts call themselves buyers, and they put it near the top of their list for a first time gun owner who wants a manual safety. Specific claims in the video are theirs, not ours.

Here’s our take. Look at the GX2 if you want a compact 9mm with a manual safety and iron sights. Expect a first range day review here, so 500 rounds is a good early sign and not a reliability guarantee.

We stock the GX2 they shot, in black with a manual safety and no optics cut. On the shelf: the Taurus GX2 9mm, Black, 13 + 1, with 13 + 1 capacity per our listing. They wished for an optics cut. That’s our note, not theirs: Taurus now makes the Taurus GX2 TORO 9mm, Black, an optics ready version they didn’t shoot or review in this video. Complete firearm.
