Phantom Llama’s Den on the Zastava ZPAP M70

Phantom Llama’s Den reviewed his new walnut‑stocked Zastava ZPAP M70 in 7.62×39, from the table to a first day of shooting. He bought it himself. “I paid for this with my own money,” he said.

Start with the limits he put on it. He said “I am not an expert on AKs” and that he’s “more of an AR‑15 guy.” He also noted “this was the first time I’ve had it out.” Taking it apart, he said “I need my tool for this until the rifle gets broken in,” and he reached for pliers. Putting it back together, the recoil spring “will not lock back in until you depress the push pin.” He also said “it is not my favorite weapon system.”

Then what he liked. The receiver is stamped. In his words, “it is a stamped receiver,” and “it has the bulge front for the trunnion to reinforce and strengthen the front end of the receiver.” He said “the barrel itself is a 16.3 cold hammer forged barrel that is chrome lined.” He pointed out “the under barrel cleaning rod,” adding “you don’t get this on a lot of the American made AKs.” The walnut furniture has “that just classic old style AK look and feel,” he said. He described the trigger as a “very light pull” and said “I’ll be really interested to see how the trigger handles once I get it broken in.” On the range, “it doesn’t have a lot of recoil,” he said, and it was “plenty manageable.” He wrapped up with “I am very pleased to have this rifle.” Specific claims in the video are his, not ours.

Here’s our take. This is one rifle in one video, on its first day of shooting, not a long‑term test. If a stamped receiver, wood furniture and an under‑barrel cleaning rod are what you want in an AK, his walkthrough shows each one up close.
