Harrell Brothers In Arms put the Henry U.S. Survival Rifle in 22 LR through a reliability and accuracy test, with Roy, Paul Harrell and their crew member John all shooting it. The video says it follows up their earlier list of guns for a three‑day emergency kit, which they said wasn’t a review of this rifle. Paul Harrell said “I purchased it,” and he credited the channel’s Patreon donations for paying for it.
Start with the doubts the video raises. They said everyone they’d met with experience on this design called it “horribly unreliable,” and that “it’s rare that you can get through a whole eight shot magazine without a malfunction.” The Henry itself “feels really unconventional,” they said, and in the wrap‑up “you really got to put some work into it.” At about 20 yards against a Ruger 10/22 as the comparison gun, after John’s targets they said “I’m going to say the Ruger is a little more accurate for the average shooter.” On an earlier outing, some Aguila rounds “didn’t function so well.” With CCI Mini‑Mag varmint loads they reported “we’ve had one fail to feed,” and said “it dented the bullet just a little bit.” Their summary was that it “might be a little bit ammo picky.”
Then what went right. Paul Harrell said the other shooters’ groups sat low partly because “I’m the one that zeroed it.” He called the Henry “about on par with” the 10/22 for accuracy. Across about 150 rounds of CCI and Remington Golden Bullet, the one failure to feed was the only problem they reported. They found it “easy to disassemble and reassemble,” which “makes maintenance very easy,” and “it all goes in the stock.” They were careful with the result. “We don’t want to hang our hats on the results that we got here today with this sample size of one,” they said, though “it looks like the reliability is pretty good.” They saw it “going in your backpack for a three‑day kit,” or on a hiking or camping trip. Specific claims in the video are theirs, not ours.
Here’s our take. This is one rifle and about 150 rounds, and they say themselves that a sample size of one only goes so far. If reliability is what worries you about this design, their test is a good start, not the final word.
