gundeals on the Taurus Deputy

Drew of gundeals takes a simple look at the Taurus Deputy, a single action revolver that shoots 9mm, 38 Special, and 357 Magnum with two cylinders.

What he covers: Drew says a retailer sent him the revolver for this review, and there is no paid sponsor. He calls himself not a huge revolver person, but he likes the idea of three calibers in one gun. One cylinder is marked for 9mm and the other takes 38 Special and 357 Magnum. He shows that the cartridges only drop into their own cylinder, so they’re hard to mix up. The single action trigger has a crisp, clean break with no mush and no grit. It measures 6 lb and feels lighter to him. He calls the finish outstanding. The grip is short. He has small hands and says his pinkie barely hangs on, so big hands won’t have much to hold. The fixed sights are nothing special. His biggest complaint is a small bushing that comes loose when the cylinder comes out. It fell out several times, and once it dropped through his deck. He calls that a huge issue and says Taurus needs to fix it. On paper at 15 yards, his 9mm loads group, 38 Special groups a little tighter, and 357 Magnum gives a great group, but everything prints left, and the 357 prints high too. He gives no group sizes and says you’ll have to judge the groups yourself. Specific claims in the video are his, not ours.

Here’s our take. Buy the Taurus Deputy if you want one simple single action revolver that can run cheap 9mm practice ammo and full power 357 Magnum. Skip it if you have big hands, need adjustable sights, or want a double action gun. Keep track of that small bushing every time the cylinder comes out.
