Is the Henry Supreme the greatest lever action ever made? It might be, says 22plinkster. They shoot it in 300 Blackout and 5.56, walk through what Henry changed, and try to split a playing card at 100 yards.
What they cover: Henry showed the Supreme at SHOT Show in January 2024, and about a year later, when they filmed, rifles were reaching dealers. It is not tube fed. It takes AR pattern box magazines, and they say anything from a 5 round magazine to a 30 round magazine or a drum will fit. They can work the lever with a pinky and call it the smoothest lever action they have ever handled. The sights are a new trapezoid design they find easier on their eyes than buckhorns. The magazine release and the tang safety are both ambidextrous. The hammer is internal, so there is no hammer to thumb down after you chamber a round, and they had to train themselves out of trying. The trigger adjusts, and Henry includes a small tool for the trigger and the sights. Their rifles wear walnut, with checkering on the forend and pistol grip and sling swivel studs front and rear. The barrel is free floated. The bolt rotates and locks up much like an AR bolt, but nothing is gas driven. Takedown pins let you strip it for a deeper cleaning than an older Henry allows. The 300 Blackout has a 16.5 inch barrel. With open sights it hit a 4 inch plate at 75 yards on the first shot. With hunting ammo they say it groups about 0.9 inch to an inch at 100 yards, and they took a whitetail with it in South Texas. The 5.56 has an 18 inch barrel with a Wylde chamber, so it shoots .223 or 5.56. They topped it with a Riton 5 Tactix 1‑10. After a group at 100 yards they say they have never shot a lever action that accurate, and they relay Henry’s claim that these rifles are sub MOA at 100. Then, with match ammo at 100 yards, the first shot barely missed the card and the second split it. Specific claims in the video are theirs, not ours. It is one review of about eleven minutes, with no round count and no reliability test.
Here’s our take. Buy the Supreme if you want a lever gun that feeds from AR magazines, with a rotating bolt and a trigger you can adjust. Skip it if you want a classic tube‑fed lever with a hammer you can see, or a long round count before you trust a new action. The card shot makes a great clip. It is still one afternoon at the range.
We stock the Henry Supreme they are shooting, in 5.56. On the shelf: the Henry Supreme in 5.56, 18 inch. Related: the Riton 5 Tactix 1‑10×24, the scope model on their 5.56. Ours is the FFP MIL version, and they never name a reticle. Also related: the Henry Supreme in 450 Bushmaster, the same line in a caliber the video does not cover. The rifles are complete firearms.
