Can a budget carry gun get through 2,000 rounds without a single problem? 9 Mil Ridge says theirs did. This is their range update on one Taurus GX4 Carry they bought themselves.
What they cover: they put the GX4 Carry up against the SIG P365 Macro, since both take a 15 round magazine. The Carry is the GX4 with a full size grip, and it comes with three backstraps so you can size the grip to your hand. They like the small shelf at the bottom of the grip that keeps their hand from sliding. The trigger has barely any takeup, a crisp break, and a very short reset, and they call it predictable and a good self‑defense trigger. The slide has a cut for a red dot, and the frame has a Picatinny rail for a light or laser. The rear sight is blacked out with a narrow notch, the front is a white dot, and they say that combination picks up a target fast. The magazine release can be swapped for left‑handed shooters, and they can drop a magazine with a flick of the thumb. The grip texture holds, and their hand rides high without the slide ever biting it. They have put a little over 2,000 rounds through it, mostly at the range, and they say it has been 100% reliable in those rounds, with no jams and no stovepipes. They tried to make it fail by limp wristing it and shooting with their weak hand, and it kept running. They have only the two magazines that came with it, both with 2,000 rounds on them and no problems. They believe the magazines are made by Mec‑Gar in Italy, but they are not certain. They keep it well oiled and clean it about every 500 rounds. Takedown works much like a Glock. You clear it, pull the trigger, turn the takedown with the small tool that comes with the gun, and slide it off. Inside, the finish shows a little normal wear, and outside it has held up well. They rate the slide average to rack, close to a P365 or a Hellcat Pro. Specific claims in the video are theirs, not ours. It is one owner’s update of about ten minutes, with no group sizes and no chrono numbers.
Here’s our take. Buy the GX4 Carry if you want a 15 round carry gun with a full grip, a short trigger reset, and room for a red dot, and you’d rather spend your money on ammo and a holster. Skip it if you need to see a long carry history first. Most of their rounds came at the range, and they had not bought a Kydex holster yet. Two thousand clean rounds from one owner is a good sign. It is not a torture test.
