1911 Syndicate on the Springfield Prodigy

Where does the Springfield Prodigy sit now that the 2011 market is crowded? 1911 Syndicate finally spent time on one, and the gun they covered is the Compact with the 4.25 inch barrel. Springfield sent it. They say the looks are safe and non‑offensive, and they give the whole lineup a solid B.

What they cover: the Springfield Prodigy Compact. Compact barrels come in 4.25 inch and 3.5 inch. They picked the 4.25 because the shorter one felt too niche for them. It has a bull barrel and a two‑piece guide rod that takes an Allen wrench to strip. They are not a fan of that rod and have not swapped it. The slide is optics ready. They ran a Holosun 508. Serrations and the Cerakote finish are fine in their words. The grip is polymer. Texture held without chewing them up. Flush magazines are 15 rounds. They note other grips the same length that hold 16 or 17. Fit and finish has production slop. After about 1,000 rounds the only stop was a failure to feed while they were shooting one‑handed in the cold and rain while sick. They call that a fluke. Recoil feels Staccato‑ish to them, and maybe a little softer than a Staccato HD they were shooting beside it. They put the gun at 33 ounces. The trigger is fine, about four pounds by their guess, and average for someone who already shoots 2011s. It ran in a QVO light‑bearing 2011 rig with a Surefire X300. The rail takes the A model. Specific claims and results in the video are theirs, not ours. It is one product review of about 22 minutes. They do not give a group size.

Here’s our take. Buy the Prodigy Compact if you want a double‑stack 1911 style 9mm at this size, and the 4.25 inch barrel they chose is enough gun for you. Skip it if you want a steel or aluminum grip, a one‑piece guide rod out of the box, or a pistol with a scored group in the review. The thousand rounds and the one feed stop are theirs. So is the B grade.

We stock the Springfield Prodigy they are covering. On the shelf: the Prodigy AOS Compact. Related: the Prodigy AOS in black and the Prodigy AOS in Coyote. The video is the Compact.
