Outer Limitless 2 on the Ruger Mini‑14 Ranch

Ruger Mini-14 Ranch 5855 rifle with a blued barrel and black synthetic stock

Outer Limitless 2 is the firearms channel Eric runs, and he posted this first look in June 2023. He walks through his Ruger Mini‑14 Ranch, model 5855, on a tabletop. He bought it off the shelf at a store, and it wasn’t the Mini‑14 he went in for. There’s no shooting on camera, but he says he’d already shot it and “I really really like it.”

Start with what he’d change. He wanted a stainless receiver and barrel for less maintenance, since he lives in an area that can be prone to salt, and a 16‑inch barrel to fit his rifle bag. This one is blued with an 18.5 inch barrel, so about two inches stick out the top of the bag. He calls the two included 5‑round magazines “a little bit lame,” though he adds “it is a place to start.” The safety sits inside the trigger guard, and he warns it “can pretty easily be knocked” if you’re not careful. The magazine has to tip forward and rock back to click in, which he calls “one thing I was struggling with at first.” And the barrel “does get quite hot,” with a metal collar up front that “gets extremely hot.” He tends to ride up on it.

Then what he likes. He wanted a rifle in 5.56 because his Ruger 10/22 and PC Carbine left him without “anything that was really rifle caliber,” and this one takes 5.56 or .223. He likes that it has a “metal trigger which is awesome,” where his other Rugers have plastic ones. Once you fire the last round, the bolt “will automatically open.” He chose the traditional stock over a pistol grip because “it indexes well,” and synthetic over wood because his guns “become projects.” At six foot one, he calls it “the perfect fit” and says he can see right through the aperture sight onto the bladed front sight. In the box he found the two magazines, a lock, scope rings, a pic rail cut out for the ejection port and a couple of tools. He calls that “actually a pretty nice setup.”

His bottom line is that it’s “just an awesome addition to my firearms lineup.” Specific claims in the video are his, not ours.

Here’s our take. This is one owner’s first look at one rifle, and none of it is shot on camera. It’s a fair walk‑through of the 5855 he bought, not a promise about every rifle off the line. His notes on the safety getting knocked and the hot front collar are worth knowing before you buy.

We stock the exact configuration he shows, the Ruger Mini‑14 Ranch 5855, blued with a black synthetic stock. Ours ships as Ruger builds it, with two 5‑round magazines, and he doesn’t mention changing anything on his. Complete firearm. Indiana FFL transfer through Wulfy’s. Ask us for current fees.

Extra Ruger factory 5‑round Mini‑14 magazines, the same ones he shows on the mat, are on the shelf too.
