Proof Research starts every barrel from a full‑profile, match‑grade 416R stainless steel blank, turns it down to a reduced contour, then wraps it in seven layers of differently‑angled, aerospace‑grade carbon fiber impregnated with the company's own proprietary resin. That carbon fiber has up to 30 times the specific strength and 7 times the specific stiffness of steel, which is how Proof gets a genuine 64% weight reduction over a comparable all‑steel barrel without giving up rigidity. Every barrel is still single‑point cut rifled and lead‑lapped -⁠- the same precision process used on Proof's steel barrels -⁠- and the helical wrap pattern actually improves longitudinal heat diffusion, so these barrels cool faster and hold accuracy longer through a real string of fire than the weight savings alone would suggest.
